  1. Gratitude. I woke up feeling an immense sense of gratitude for the teams I am currently contracted to work with. It isn’t often as a consultant that I’ve worked with an organization as intensely concerned with the welfare and progression of my me as a person and practitioner as I have consulting with my current client. The design team is considerate of their practice and passionate about their products and users. I’ve never been denied an ad hoc peer review. I have a great mentor and a multitude of talented and supportive coworkers/friends.
  2. Makers. These are the people who recognize what it is that needs to find its way from the ethereal plane of “what if” and are humble enough to seek knowledge, guidance, and assistance in crafting it into existence. The epiphany around makers coalesced in discussion with a fellow designer. He said great designers Get Stuff Done, they have strong opinions but will be willing to let them go if proven wrong. These points are both so key. Makers are driven but humble. They are designers not satisfied to produce from the bullpen at a service bureau. They need to dig down to the root of a problem and learn everything they can grasp on the way back up to the solution.
  3. It’s still too easy to go into the cave. The cave is a place where I can focus and get things done, but it’s not where I need to be today. Today I need to be in the field garnering knowledge. I need to be among my fellow participants engaged, and humble, and engaged in a great cause.
